Restaurants in Machico
Machico is 17km Northeast from Madeira Island's capital of Funchal and is situated between Santana and Santa Cruz. Over the recent years, Machico has progressed into one of the most searched-for Madeiran locations because of its growth in all areas of tourism and leisure. It has so much to offer its locals or tourists such as adventure walks and warm sandy beaches, a golf-course, marinas, historic monuments, view points, promenades, hotels, small shopping centres and an even vaster selection of long-established family restaurants, cafés and bars.
The list of places to eat in Machico is long and some charming and respected restaurants can be found even in some of the smallest and more distant towns. The best places to find restaurants, however, are in the actual town of Machico or in the always sunny fishing town of Caniçal. Here you can find some wonderful marisco or seafood restaurants, pizzerias or the typical restaurant that concentrates on serving up the 'real deal' of traditional regional delicacies. Cafés, bars and snack-bars are also in abundance in the majority of the towns which are perfect when needing to stop for a simple bite to eat or drink.
The best thing about eating in Machico is that there are different settings you can choose to eat at in terms of choosing to eat in the moutainous zones or down by the seaside or perhaps you would prefer to dine whilst overlooking the magnificent green valleys of the area. One thing to bear in mind is that restaurants here are not for those looking for chic and elegance. Restaurants here are mainly family businesses and 'traditionally Madeiran' is the style you should expect to find.
