Real Canoa
Overview
The Restaurante Real Canoa is situated at the far end of the Estrada Monumental road in Funchal and is a little distant from the line of hotels found in the lido zone. A very popular restaurant among new visitors but especially returning visitors to the island. Interior is traditionally Madeiran as is the menu. Serves very good meat dishes including specialty Espetada and steak cooked on a hot stone (at your table). Also specializes in traditional seafood dishes. Portions are generous and food well prepared and fresh. The wine list is also pleasing. Service is very friendly and welcoming with the restaurant owner as the main host. English is spoken well by all staff as well as some other languages. Offers occasional live music and entertainment. Includes patio for outdoor eating. Restaurante Real Canoa is ideal for all types of dining but the atmosphere is better during evening meals. A value for money restaurant.

Delicious food. Friendly and efficient staff. Good value especially the Tourist Menu. Will definitely go there again on my next visit to Madeira.
Best meal of our holiday

We selected meals cooked " on the stone" and they were delicious. You need to book / ask for an outside table for this option and as the restaurant was very busy (mid May) then making a reservation is wise. Several diners were regular visitors to the island and this restaurant.
