Apolo

Overview

The Apolo restaurant and café is a long-established venue dating back to 1945. Uniquely positioned in the Sé esplanade facing the famous Sé Cathedral in the city centre, this restaurant was for many years the 'businessman's restaurant'. Today it is a relaxing stopping point for tourists passing through the beautiful Madeiran capital looking to eat simple Madeiran meals/snacks or drink a coffee accompanied by a selection of fresh Portuguese pastries. The Apolo restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating and is the perfect spot to eat or drink whilst watching locals go about their daily lives. During high seasons and especially during the Christmas and New Year period, the Sé esplanade comes to life with live music and entertainment which can be enjoyed from this restaurant.

Kitchen problem

  • No, I wouldn't go back!

Would not recommend. We went as a party of 4. One had a burger and was served after considerable wait and after a further ten minutes the final 3 were served with their salads. These consisted of 3 prawns, small amount of salmon,2 slices of cucumber, unripe tomato, a very large amount of bitter lettuce. No dressing offered. When we complained about the whole experience we were told they had problems in the kitchen - no discount was offered.
