Goya
Overview
"Goya" is one of the most spectacular madeiran restaurants. Having inaugurated on the 20th of December 2013, it is a restaurant of refined décor and taste. The establishment, situated in a touristic area, is enriched by stunning frescoes painted by talented artists known as Oleksandr Goncharov and Wolfgang Lass; with one of the frescoes being a replica of a Francisco Goya painting. In the apricot-coloured cloth-lined cupboards found around the dining room are signed collections of plates. The restaurant also offers its own wine cellar allowing clients the possibility of picking out their desired wines. Two ample spaces are occupied by a pantry and the kitchen which, technically speaking, are both equipped with the most modern of equipment promoting a fast and efficient service. The gastronomy, of course, is the focal point: a refined and tasteful international cuisine complete with a menu of original dishes. In a short space of time, "Goya" has quickly become a recommended local restaurant. Open every day, this new locale (opposite the Melia Madeira Hotel), offers unforgettable lunches and dinners. "Goya" is truly a dream that came true.

Summary:
Goya evening meal
By Geoffrey Pook on 2014-08-23
Our evening meal was excellent, the fillet steaks, pork fillet and lamb dishes were cooked to perfection together with the accompanying vegetables, and an excellent choice of red and white wines. The staff were attentive, friendly and discreet. It was a delight to meet the chef who was interested and appeared to value the comments made regarding the food. One of our party felt that the passion fruit soufflé lacked the flavour of passion fruit and this comment was accepted by the chef. Altogether a most enjoyable evening of food and wine accompanied by the gentle strains of an accomplished violinist. Highly recommended.

The Goya Restaurant is very special we have been there many times and the service, ambiance and the food first class. The wines selected are perfect and the staff are very attentive and make you feel very welcome every time we have visited. Don't change a thing perfection is hard to beat. We hope to visit again soon. Thank you to all involved.
Disappoinment!

Our tourguide recommmend this restaurant. He said, excellent restaurant with moderate preis! Probably he is the friend of this restaurant. This restaurant is a real tourist restaurant. we have a linguine with seafood, and one redsnapper stew, one glass of white wine and water. We paid almost 50 Euro. When food is proper, it is fine but food was really not good. Pasta is over cooked and really bad quality of pasta, drei small bis middle size shrimps, not really frisch, two mussels, one slice of parmasan cheese, two leaves of ruccola, sauce does not taste at all. Three small pieces of fish with little amount of sauce with dried fried potatoes and cooked vegetables. We left almost of them. They tried very hard only to decorate plate like gourmet restaurant without any quality. We have had a nice meal in Madeira in general but this restaurant, we feel like that we are cheated. We were very upset with our tourguide.
We almost walked by.

Invited in by the waiting staff who were most engaging. They talked us through the delights of the menu. The wine suggested both alcoholic and "non" yes non we enjoyed. Oh yes the food, it was as pleasing to the eye as it was to the taste. To the chef and the waiting staff you deserve the 5 star rating. Must mention the rest rooms ....unique to the island.
