Restaurante do Forte, in the upper part of the 'Old Town' zone in Funchal, is a gourmet restaurant uniquely located in the 17th Century built San Tiago yellow fortress with splendid Funchal city and sea views. In terms of gastronomy, the Restaurante do Forte blends together regional, national and international cuisines and brings creativity and a unique style to its dishes. Just like its sister restaurant, Restaurante Mozart, there is an À La Carte Menu as well as a fixed price menu of a 3 course meal of your choice with wine included. Interior design is inviting and very atmospheric. Also provides outdoor seating on patios offering magnificent views over the 'Old Town'. The Restaurante do Forte has regular theme nights such as medieval, romantic or Moroccan themed nights. An ideal restaurant for a romantic or relaxed meal. Considered as being one of the best restaurants to be found in Funchal.

Summary:
A wonderful experience!!

We were greeted with a very warm welcome, in fact all the staff were friendly and keen to ensure we had a wonderful experience. We decided to have the fixed menu which was excellent value for money. The staff were very attentive without being intrusive and happy to answer questions about items on the menu, nothing was too much trouble. Each course was presented beautifully and tasted so good!!!Wine is included in the fixed price, and as soon as you empty your glass someone tops it up as if by magic!! If you love good food at a reasonable price I would certainly recommend this restaurant

This was our first holiday in Madeira. . We booked a table for two at the Forte, and they even came to collect us from our hotel in a 1932 Cadillac. It was like royalty. We were welcomed on arrival and shown to our table. The 'fizzy' arrived followed by our starter, followed by the main, accompanied by endless wine, followed by sweet and Port, and coffee to finish. Wife and I had a beautiful dinner, and will certainly return. We did this 26 September 2014.
Best experience ever

We had the best experience ever from being picked up by a vintage car and given the best dining experience we have ever had. The staff are wonderful and friendly with an extremely high level of attention. I had the tiniest mark on one of my glass's, which l could not even see and it was replaced immediately. The food was outstanding too. Everything was so good that we decided to get the vintage car and Paolo to return us to our hotel. I loved the Island but would return just to dine here again. Thank you to everyone.
Fabulous celebration meal for 2

On July 1st 2016, to celebrate my husband's 65th birthday, we went here for the gourmet meal with wine. Picked in the old Austin car it felt like royalty being driven along the sea front from our hotel to the restaurant. The food, service, attention to detail (such as singing happy birthday to my husband and decorating his desert plate) are second to none. We plan to go again in November 2017 and cannot recommend it highly enough for any visitor to Madeira.
